Allen Underkofler is an information technology specialist from the Philadelphia area
who has been an independent consultant for over two decades. His work experience spans from
IBM mainframe systems to advanced client/server applications and the Internet. In the course
of his career, he has served as a Systems Engineer with IBM; a director of Information Systems
for a large independent transportation company; and a consultant to many Fortune 500 businesses.
He has provided contract services to IBM, Microsoft, ITI/Actium, and Diamond Technologies.
Mr. Underkofler has taught courses in computer science at a metropolitan community college,
product courses at IBM education locations, and staff tutorials in implementation strategy
at several universities in the Philadelphia area. He scripted, narrated, and co-produced
a self-study video titled “Build Your Own Web Page” at a time when the Internet was first
gaining popularity. He has published several booklets on railroad history and maintains
several railroad-related websites for clients.
Mr. Underkofler has extensive experience in designing client/server databases based on
custom graphics and photography. One example is a marketing CD with a portable database
for a medical textbook publisher. He has developed several of these using Microsoft’s .Net
tools.
Other assignments included assistance in the installation of a toll system on a major
I-95 bridge, network installation and wiring for businesses new to networking, and the installation
of Microsoft’s Small Business Server 2003 for several clients.
The creation of Internet/Intranet/Extranet delivery systems, publishing of data warehouse
contents, support manuals, cartography, and document conversion are his current emphasis.
